    Abstract:
    Objective: To identify and evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions that include diet and physical exercise for the prevention of metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Literature review, through a structured keyword search in Pubmed, Scopus, Cinhal, Dialnet and Cuiden databases between October 2017 and April 2018. Results and discussion: 17 articles were included met the inclusion criteria. The interventions showed significant reductions in all cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors. Blood pressure was the parameter that suffered less variation, needing more follow up to appreciate any change. Conclusions: The non-pharmacological interventions that included diet and physical exercise were used in combination were the most used method and the one that improved the results in the decrease of the prevalence of metabolic syndrome.
