Abstract:
Objective: to perform an analysis of the different emotional responses in women with breast cancer from the diagnosis, between 45 and 65 years, in the geographical area of Tarragona. Methodology: qualitative study, focused on the phenomenon of emotions perceived by women with breast cancer during the diagnosis and treatment. Studied variables: sociodemographic, emotions that appear at the moment of diagnosis and how they affect the life quality of women with breast cancer, in order to analyse the emotional responses arising from their experiences about breast cancer. Subsequently, each of them has developed a drawing, strengthening the expression of their emotions. Results: the breast cancer triggers certain alterations to the physical, emotional and psychological support. Sadness, fear and uncertainty are the most prevailing emotions in the diagnosis. The lost of a part of your body generates a decrease in self-esteem and life quality. Couple, family and friends are very important for them. In addition, hope, positive attitude and confident in themselves and in the professionals, are key elements to deal with cancer. Conclusion: emotions should be considered important during the oncologic process. The nursing role is essential so that women are able to externalize and strengthen their emotions, thereby enhancing women’s life quality.
