Abstract:
Objectives: To identify the knowledge of contraceptive pills (CP) users about the potential effects and risks of taking them Methods: Research carried out with quantitative methods. The information was generated through an online enquiry. The study subjects were among 182 women between 15-35 years old, with no kids and using CP pills at the time. Ethical and legal aspects were taken into consideration. Results: The 42,8% of surveyed women use CP as contraceptive methods. Birth control is the main reason why the users take CP in about 72,4% of the cases. The 27,6% think that the use of CP does not increase the risk of suffering pathologies. The prime source of information comes from the doctors and/or the nurses in about 83,5%. Conclusions: The main source of information of CP is the doctor and/or the nurse. The big amount of mistakes and/or the incomplete information that is observed in the questionnaire may demonstrate that there is a mistake either from the transmitter, for instance the doctor and/or the nurse, or the receiver’s interpretation, in this case, the users. Therefore, that makes us think that there is a need for a better quality education for the CP users. It should be noticed that despite of the information transmission, myths are still present in our society distorting the reliable information that users can get. That could be due to the ignorance by the health professionals on the popular beliefs about these pills.
