Abstract:
Childhood cancer is a major health problem due to the emotional impact it entails. Children are subjected to extended periods of treatment and a series of painful procedures, which as a result suffer an increase in stress and anxiety, both by them and the family. Nurses should look for coping strategies to accompany and support the patient and their environment. The objective of this work is to know the therapeutic tools used by nursing professionals in the hospital field in relation to the treatment of children with cancer. These tools have great benefits for the child and it is important to know them to use them in our healthcare practice. The study methodology used was a bibliographic review of articles published between 2008 and 2018 regarding the objective. The search was carried out in the following databases: Pubmed, CINAHL, Cuiden, Dialnet, SciELO, Psycinfo and Sciencedirect. A result of 24 articles has been obtained, selected according to the established inclusion criteria. The analysis of the results has been divided into three categories: the effectiveness of therapeutic tools in oncological children, the impact of childhood cancer on the lives of families and the role of nurses in child cancer care. In conclusion, it is essential that nurses know the concerns and the world of the child, just as we can’t forget your family, as they are a basic pillar in care. The therapeutic tools used by nursing professionals in the hospital setting are beneficial in reducing the stress and anxiety of children about cancer treatment. Even so, we consider it necessary to continue researching in this area, since few related studies are known.
