Therapeutic exercise program in patients hospitalized with schizophrenia. Descriptive study.

Abstract:
Introduction: As a result of the institutionalization, medication and the pathology itself, people with chronic mental illness tend to acquire sedentary life habits unfavorable to their physical, mental and social well-being. Objectives: To internalize physical exercise as a healthy lifestyle in patients with chronic schizophrenia. Material and methods: The program was applied in the hospital rehabilitation unit at the Institut Pere Mata (Reus), covering a period of 8 weeks in initial contact and questionnaire session, 9 practical sessions and a final observation session took place. Based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, we obtained an initial sample of 10 and a final sample of 9 participants.
