Analysis of interventions for the training of the perfusionist nurse

    Abstract:
    Background: Extracorporeal circulation is the most important technique in the field of cardiac surgery. It has been extended to various surgical processes of high complexity, requiring qualified health professionals for its management. Aim: To examine the training interventions made by health professionals to acquire the knowledge and skills to perform the position of perfusionist. Method: Bibliographical review of 15 articles, Compiled from biomedical and nursing databases Medline (Pubmed), Scopus, CINAHL(EBSCO), Dialnet, ScienceDirect and The digital repository of the Spanish Association of Perfusionists. Results: The perfusionists are mainly nurses. However, there is heterogeneity in its formation, both theoretical and practical, regarding extracorporeal circulation. They require advanced practice skills to ensure the quality of care in this highly complex process. Conclusions: The training and progressive acquisition of professional competencies is essential to reduce avoidable adverse effects in relation to the care of the patient subjected to extracorporeal circulation.
