The role of nursing in home care of patients with terminal pathology

Abstract:
Introduction: The nursery plays a crucial role in providing palliative care to the patient in the final stage of life, however, their work is not only the care of the patient but also the approach of the family, which goes through the painful process as well. Objectives: To carry out a bibliographic review on the role of the nurse in home care of patients with terminal pathology. Taking into account the physical and psychological spheres of the patient, their family and the interdisciplinary team involved. Methods: A review of the current literature regarding the role of nursing in the care of patients with terminal pathology at home was conducted. Results: A total of 12 final articles were chosen as a result of the search within the last 10 years, focused on the care of the terminally ill patient at home, the family and the interdisciplinary team. Discussion: Most of the articles analysed highlight the importance of good communication between patient-nurse, family-nurse or team-nurse. They also reflect the need to satisfy the psychological needs of the patient and not just the physical ones. Regarding the family, highlight the importance of providing emotional support when needed, creating a bond of trust. Conclusion: The bibliographic review responds to most of the objectives stated above, but there are shortcomings on the figure of nursing in some aspects because it is not clearly seen the work that it exerts within the interdisciplinary team, however, in relation to interventions with the family and the patient, are quite specific since these consist of providing physical and emotional comfort.
