    Abstract:
Dated today (2015), Bayer Materialscience is producing hydrochloric acid at a mass concentration of 32 %. In order to reduce the manipulation and logistic expenses of this product, it has been proposed to the engineers team the development of a project to evaluate whether it is possible to achieve such concentration or greater. Therefore, a process able to achieve a mass concentration of 36 % has been developed. This process is constituted of an isotherm absorption column with structured packing with pumparound, a tubes and shell condenser, two plate exchangers, two pumping systems and two vessel which guarantees the correct operation of the whole process. What’s more, the piping system and the instrumentation and control strategy which ensure the compliance of the requirements. An Environmental Impact Study and a Hazop study have also been done, that ensures that the process is respectful with the environment and the people. Finally, an economic study has been developed which concludes that the now process is viable and it suits the necessity of the sponsor of the project.
