    Abstract:
The Project is based on the basic design of a plant for production of phenol using the Hock process, located in La Canonja (Tarragona). The distillation train take over the distillation of phenol with a marketing purity higher than 99 %. We should add that this project does not contain the reaction zone of the plant. The distillation train studied in this document produces 289.000 t/year of phenol from cumene obtaining a product purity of 99,1 % and 99,9 %. It also includes the associated equipment sizing, which are reboiler, condenser, condensate vessel and pumps. It has been studied the distillation sequence to increase the amount of phenol production using the same prime materials and to reduce the economic costs of this system. The possibility of using different types of plates based on annual production to choose the most appropriate for columns is also studied. As alternative to distillation sequence and type of sets are identified and studied the economic viability, taking into account the current condition of the client which is a variable annual production. The decision exposed to customer’s project in order to demonstrate the soundness of the chosen alternative checked and adapted at all times to the needs of the company.
