Needs of relatives of cancer patients in terminal state: a review

    Abstract:
    Introduction: Family are present during all illness process, but in terminal state, that is the most delicate, increments the demands of the patients, in consequence, the needs of de partners too, especially who acquires the main carer role. Objective: The objective is to identify the family needs of the terminal oncologic patients. Methodology: The methodology chose was the bibliography systematic revision. First of all, we defined three key words through DeCS and MeSH treasures, and then fixed included and excluded criteria and then screened the documents for year of publication, language and the relation of tittle and abstract with the topic of the investigation. The databases used were Cuiden, CINHAL and Scopus, the bibliographic portals were Dialnet and Google Schoolar. Finally, 12 articles were identified and included in the review. Results: Family care to cancer patients in a terminal state requires a full time dedication, and this can affect negatively on care givers health because they could forget their healthy habits and wellness because they prioritize those of the sick. Moreover, the mental health could be affected by this situation, having sad feelings excessive burden and stress. Thus, the care role not only affect on physical and emotional areas, but in roles too, changing them. Conclusions: The main carer is affected on the physical, psychological and social spheres, bearing consequences like fatigue, negative feelings such as sadness or furiousness, and decrease in their social interactions and work schedule, which lead to carer’s claudication. It’s important for the healthcare professionals to acquire specific training to offer integrative care for the patient and family, and to provide the information in the appropriate form and in the right moment.
