    Abstract:
Preconception care is aimed at those women who intend to plan pregnancy. Nowadays, in Catalonia, only 20% of women receive specialized care before getting pregnant. With individualized follow-up and by adopting healthy habits according to the needs of each women, the negative results during pregnancy can be reduced. Objective: To develop an informative and promotional triptych about preconception assistance, aimed at woman who wish to become mothers and based on the latest published recommendations. Methodology: A literature review of the subject has been made, in which different national and international databases have been consulted: Pubmed, Cinahl, Dialnet, Cuiden, Cuidatge and Google Scholar. The articles published between 2013 and 2018 have been included. The key words used were: “Preconception care”, “Dietary supplements”, “Exercise”, “Diet” and “Vaccines”, combined between them and in different languages. Results: Daily folic acid is recommended for 1-2 months before pregnancy, 0’4 mg for those women who do not have any risk factor and 5 mg for those who do. In contrast, the benefits of supplementation with other nutrients are not sufficiently proved. Also, woman should have a healthy diet rich in folic acid, iron and iodine. It is very important that woman who suffer from chronic illnesses will stabilize it and even in some cases the treatment will need to be modified. The administration of attenuated virus vaccines is not recommended during the preconception period, as it could be harmful to the fetus. Conclusion: Folic acid supplementation is essential to prevent neural tube defects. However, supplementation with other nutrients is not recommended if woman doesn’t present a deficit, as this can lead to unnecessary damage. Diet can cover certain energy needs that woman have increased during pregnancy. It is very important to control chronic diseases to avoid possible complication during pregnancy.
