    Abstract:
Kresoxim-Methyl production plant, located in the BASF site at Tarragona, produces an effluent of waste waters at its 5th stage which carries an excessive load in nitrogen. Because of that, this effluent cannot be treated at the site plant for treatment. This implies that those waste waters must be treated externally, which results in an economic, environmental and logistic effort. To avoid that, it was evaluated the possibility of pre-treating those waters by means of a distillation column. To make it possible, it was proposed to reduce the quantity of ammonium chloride in the stream by adding sodium hydroxide in order to generate ammonia, which can be distilled. That results in a diminution of the quantity of nitrogen in the stream. This project will carry out the initial design of that distillation column and the different devices involved in the process.
