Experience of gestational diabetes. Phenomenological study

    Abstract:
    Introduction: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus is the most common metabolic problem in pregnancy. It is characterized by intolerance to carbohydrates, which is identified during pregnancy. This diagnosis can have serious repercussions on the emotional state of pregnant women. Main objective of the study: To know the experiences of women with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus and the significance that they give. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive and phenomenological study. The sample has been 5 pregnant women who have expressed their feelings and perceptions through semi-structured interviews. The empirical material has been transcribed, organized and analyzed. Results and discussion: The study revealed 6 thematic categories: knowledge of the diagnosis, living with the experience, obtaining information and basic resources, social and family support, habits and concerns for the feoutus. Conclusion: Based on the experiences of pregnant women with the diagnosis of DMG, we have learned how to develop a new pathology just before pregnancy. The results have shown that the experience of maternity and the manifestation of psychological distress in each of these women is different in some points and similar in others.
