The campings of Mont-roig del Camp: origins and evolution

Abstract:
This work studies the beginnings and the development of the camping activity in Montroig del Camp, as an example of what has happened in the last decades in Costa Dorada and Catalonia in general. In the first part the camping activity is contextualized; on the one hand at the time of its origins as an economic activity, presenting the regulations -urbanistic, tourist- in the Catalan, provincial and local framework; on the other hand, taking a look at the evolution of this context up to the present time. The second part analyzes the specific case of Mont-roig del Camp through interviews and the documentation and statistical data available, and includes topics such as the arrival of campings on Costa Dorada, the distribution of categories and establishments in the province of Tarragona, the evolution of the campings of Costa Dorada, the tourist development in Montroig del Camp and its geographical context, the role of Mont-roig del Camp in the Costa Dorada, the province of Tarragona and Catalonia in terms of campings or the evolution of the camping areas to tourist resorts. Finally, the third and last part of the paper presents complementary conclusions and documentary annexes.
