Abstract:
The World Health Organization defines gender violence as a social problem of epidemic dimensions. With an amount of victims which is not decreasing over the years, this is the most cruel reflection of the asymmetry of power between men and women. This project is a bibliographic revision of gender violence in a particular case, the pregnant woman. Violence against the pregnant woman has certain particularities (for example, that the physical violence is focused on the most vulnerable parts of her body, like her breasts, the abdomen or genitals), as well as points in common about the risk factors; low socioeconomic level, lack of social support, increase of familiar responsibilities and relationships where the partner is less involved. As per the consequences; the rupture of the placenta, premature birth and abortion. Lastly, the importance of the medical staff in the detection and prevention of the gender violence during pregnancy is emphasized, as well as the need of better training in the field and disposal of spaces and time to accomplish this objective, with the purpose of offering the tools for its detection and prevention, reducing this way the impact on the mother's and fetus' health.
