    Abstract:
This coursework is aimed to approach serious mental illness (SMI). These mentally ill people suffer from severe psychiatric disorders that cause long-lasting mental alterations, which produces a degree of disability and social dysfunction in the patients. The patient has to be taken care of through several public health means in the psychiatric and social net. The aim of this coursework is to elaborate an intervention proposal in order to perform a psychosocial intervention project. The methodology used is based on a descriptive bibliographic review in PubMed, Dialnet, CUIDEN PLUS, Redalyc and CINAHL data basis. A total of 20 articles were chosen, following the already established criteria, in order to carry out a total of 12 activities structured within 6 different units. In conclusion, nursing can help improve the SMI patients’ quality of life by means of holistic attention and sanitary education that intends to modify the lifestyles (diet, exercise, tobacco and harmful substance, leisure, etc.), to manage the symptomatology and to supply physical, emotional and psychological support to both the patient and the patient’s family.
