Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: The family members who suffer the suicide of a loved one, have difficulty restoring their daily life. This traumatic event cases survivor personal changes in the way they see the world.This factcan lead the permanent or final dysfunction of daily life, endangering the survivor’s integrity.OBJETIVES: To know thebio-psycho-social consequences of the impact of death caused by suicide on the survivors, older than 19 yearswho are next to the decedent.METHODOLOGY: A fence is made with the data bases of Pubmed, Scopus and Cinhal, to identify quality, quantity and mixed articles published from 2009 to 2019.RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: Suicide produces bio-psycho-social consequences that affect thesurvivor. There is a physical impact with the appearance of chronic disease and change in habits that lead a worsening quality of life. Survivors may also experience the onset of mental illness such as episodes of psychotic outbreaks, personality disorders, affective disorders, and worsening of others such a schizophrenia. As well as increased mood disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, suicidal ideation accompanied by a high emotional impact that leads to the search for the cause of death and different types of coping that condition the quality of life and are the determinant for identifying as a survivor. Finally there is a social impact, given by change in the family role and the use of new technological toolsfocused on social networks to give them socialand personal support.CONCLUSION: Health professionals who deal with patients who suffer from physical, mental and social consequences of suicide must receive specialized training to offer good prevention, diagnosis and treatment, and must and pay attention to the vital consequences that these events can have on a survivor’s life.KEYWORDS: Impact, bereavement, suicide, survivors
