Impact of the diagnosis of type 1 Diabetes Mellitus on adolescents and their psychosocial environment.

    Abstract:
    ABSTRACTThe diagnosis of type I diabetes mellitus in adolescence is a spontaneous event of sudden onset with a significant impact on the life of the affected person and that will completely change his/her lifestyle with the onset of this chronic disease that needscontinued follow-up in the daily life of the adolescent, who is already in a stage of physical, psychological and social changes. In this dissertation, the main objective is to describe how the diagnosis of DM1 affects adolescents and also how it influences their psychosocial environment and quality of life. For all this, a bibliographic review of 15 articles from different databases has been carried out to know the impact of the disease on adolescents, their families and their psychosocial environment, as well as how the quality of life can be affected and the interventions that the nursescan carry out to address this chronic pathology. Regarding the results obtained, highlights the importance of the psychological impact of the diagnosis, which can lead to depression or anxiety, also highlights the figure of the family as a key point in the development of autonomy to perform the care of DM1 and the strict daily monitoring. Nursing professionals play a key role with biopsychosocial vision in order to individualize interventions in each patient and togive health education to ensure a good quality of life in a long term. In conclusion, in the new diagnosis of DM1 there is a psychosocial impact that directly affects the adolescent and can also affect their quality of life, so the role of nurses is very important in the onset of the disease and in their follow-up, always accompanying these patients and their families.Keywords:diagnosisof type I diabetes, adolescents, psychosocial environment, quality of life, families, nursing role.
