    Abstract:
This paper investigates the feasibility of a low-cost indoor localization system based on time-domain ultra-wide band (UWB) radio frequency identification (RFID) tags. A commercial UWB radar is used to detect the tags located under the floor. Three types of tags are proposed: passive reflectors, chipless time-coded tags, and semi-passive time-coded tags. The system is built and tested in a test bed environment with satisfactory results. The study proposes several strategies to use these tags for indoor mapping, localization and guidance. Keywords—Ultra-Wide Band (UWB); Localization, radio-frequency identification (RFID); passive tags, chipless RFID; time-coded UWB tags; ground-penetration radar (GPR).
