Tags and sensors without chip in RFID technology AUTHOR: Jaume Bret Solé SUPERVISOR: Davis Giribau Sala jaume.bret@estudiants.urv.cat Abstract. This project demonstrates the feasibility of detecting the relative permittivity of a material using sensors based on chipless RFID tags. The detection is carried out from the time delay of an electromagnetic wave when is propagated through a particular medium. A sensibility study is presented where the microstrp and coplanar topologies are compared and their characteristics are shown. Moreover, it is also shown the way of designing and characterising UWB antennas with coplanar access through a parametric study where the adaptation is related with the physical dimensions of this type of antennas. Finally, delay lines are integrated with the antenna and two time-coded chipless tags are designed and used as permittivity sensor, showing measurements at the laboratory.
