Hyperbaric oxygen therapy: a literature review

Abstract: Objective: To know the current situation of hyperbaric medicine and its applications in the health world through a systematic review. Methods: Research systemic literature (internet databases) of investigations published over the last 10 years in Spanish about hyperbaric medicine. Results: Once the search and screening results, we obtain 13 reliable documents. Most studies don’t indicate the use of HBO in the pathologies investigated largely due to methodological flaws in the studies. However, in some areas we have obtained results that may show slight use as adjuvant therapy. Conclusions: HBO is still a great unknown in the field and not have sufficient evidence of the use of carbon monoxide poisoning or pressure accidents, as popularized in the health field.
