    Abstract:
ABSTRACT Venous ulcers have a high incidence and they involve economic, social and personal costs. Objectives: To develop a consensus document on strategies for prevention and treatment of venous ulcers published in the last ten years, to identify major modifiable risk factors for the occurrence of venous ulcers and to know the different measures for their prevention and treatment. Methodology: It was conducted a data review of the literature on PubMed and CINAHL databases. Of the 75 items founded, 14 were selected after being subjected to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: The main strategy of treatment and prevention of recurrence of venous ulcers is compression therapy, being more effective high compression versus moderate compression. Most studies showed that neither topical therapy is more effective than others. Family support promotes adherence to the treatment. Conclusions: The study shows the importance of compression therapy as primary treatment and its concomitant use with other strategies. Due to the lack of literature it failed to address the primary prevention of venous ulcers, so it could not achieve all the objectives all the objectives. Following the results have identified several lines of future research. Keywords: venous ulcer, prevention, treatment, bibliographic review.
