    Abstract:
ABSTRACT Currently open visitation policies in ICUs remain a subject of debate. Although in recent years has been shown the great benefit they bring to patients and their families, the professionals themselves and in particular the nursing team, have shown reluctance to implement in most of the hospitals in our country. Objective: To explore the perception that nurses have to proceed with the introduction of a system of open visitation policies in the ICU and the main obstacles they find. Method: A descriptive qualitative study. We have made 4 semi-structured interviews to different nurses from two hospitals, one in Spain and another one in Finland. Results: Nurses, despite of being aware that the fact of opening the UCI can bring benefits to patients, continue to maintain a negative to it, confirming that found in similar studies. They expressed the need of more flexible rules that allow visits according to the situation of each patient. Conclusions: Nursing appears as a profession that deals with the care of patients. In this study we can see that this care may be the reason you do present some resistance to change. However more research is needed to ascertain whether this change does not occur due to the lack of standard to allow flexibility or abuse of power that allows to have the decision to choose from the team.
