Abstract:
Abstract Objective: Spreading the best scientific evidence on the use and expectations of NIV and nursing care derived from this technique. Methodology: Literature review where the items published between 2004 and 2015, in Spanish and English were used. Those who referred to the pediatric and extra-hospitalary care were excluded. The search was made in the databases: Cuiden, Cuidatge, CSIC, CINAHL, IME, Medline. And in the following electronic magazines: Enfermería Clínica, Enfermería Intensiva, American Journal of Critical Care Nursing in Critical Care. Results: Literature review where a total of 28 items published between 2004 and 2015, 18 in Spanish and 10 articles in English were used. There are different factors which determine the success or failure of the technique. It is essential to choose the right interface for the patient as well as their monitoring and knowledge of the complications, prevention and management. An expert staff is essential to carry out this technique and given the conditions that lead to patient requiring therapy, psychological support is a key element. Conclusions: We can affirm that the introduction of this therapy is complex and should be used properly, taking into account the physical and psychological characteristics of our patient being vitally important to preserve their privacy and consider emotions, fears and concerns. Only then we will ensure care and quality attention. Key words: Non Invasive Ventilation (NIV) and Critical Care, Nursing and NIV.
