A motorcycle restoration and modification

Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to carry out a technical project for a motorcycle modification with its subsequent construction as the culmination. The first task consists of an exhaustive search of information prior to make the first cut on the motorcycle, in order to avoid any problems when homologating the vehicle once completed, which is the aim of this project. This research includes contact with specialised companies and our own research through the corresponding legislation. Subsequently, an analysis has been made of different solutions proposed for the new structural design of the chassis and for the rest of the remodelled parts, including a study for the choice of material and all the necessary simulations. With the clear information and the correct calculations, the new structure is cut and shaped. This operation is accompanied by the adaptation of all the elements in the frame. The performance of the motorbike body allows the restoration of all other elements that require it. It refers to the suspension, the tank, the brakes, the exhaust, the wheels and especially the engine, as well as a variety of additional parts. The restoration of the engine and the creation of the new wiring diagram again have required a careful follow-up of the brand’s technical manual, a delicate task of demanding precision. Both the technical design and the manufacture and assembly were carried out personally. This has had a direct impact on learning in this field and on the possible future communication between engineer and manufacturing technician, due to the fact of experiencing the process of forming and manufacturing by first-hand. The homologation of the model is successfully achieved.
