Abstract:
Summary Objectives: This study has as an objective to identify the perceived needs of people with Alzheimer’s caregivers, why they go the external centres and which is the role of the nursing professional once this disease is diagnosed. Methodology: It is made since the qualitative study with phenomenological orientation based on a focus group made up of 4 people and 2 semi-structured interviews. It has also used the overburden scale of the caregiver Zarit and the ICUB97 questionnaire to obtain more information about his situation. Results: From the methodology used we have known about the affected needs, the view of the caregiver about the role of nursing and how they believe it could deal with, with the objective of preventing the overburden of the caregiver. The results are analyzed from the exemplary of Virginia Henderson’s needs and they are associated to the NANDA International Nursing diagnosis. Conclusions: The role of caregiver is not valued enough and should be recognized in today's society, as plays a central role for the sick person and the community. Professionals don’t have specific training to be provided to caregivers, so the family who is in charge of the patient, is the lack of resource, especially of information, therefore, it is essential that professionals are raised implement measures to cover all those needs identified starting from the beginning of diagnosis. In this way, we will help them provide better care to their family and skills to care for themselves.
