Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction: Preterm neonates are constantly exposed to stress factors, which worsen their clinical condition. Kangaroo Method generates individualized attention to premature, covering different needs, such as breastfeeding, security, protection and love caused by the contact in skin-to-skin with their parents. Objective: Review the benefits of Kangaroo Method or skin-to-skin on preterm neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Method: Literature review on Cuidatge, Cuiden, Enfispo, IME, IBECS, Pub-Med, Scopus, Cochrane Library and Dialnet database. The selection criteria includes articles published after 2004. Selected articles were in Spanish and English and the topic was based on the keywords. Results: 13 articles were analyzed. These articles showed that Kangaroo Method stimulated preterm growth and improved their physiologic and hemodynamic state. Furthermore, it reduced the stress and pain caused by different techniques. Conclusion: Kangaroo Method is an effective method, economic and easy to implement in the development and improvement of the preterm neonate clinic. Keywords: Kangaroo method, preterm neonate, neonatal intensive care unit.
