Abstract: The creation of a colostomy has always a big emotional impact for those who have to live with it and also for their relatives. Nursing has a big responsibility giving support, as well as it is done by associations or the same family. The main target of this study is to explore the life quality of those carrying on an ostomy, identifying the changes that should be made and those aspects on which they may need nurse help. The investigation method is based on the qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, done by four semi-structured interviews. In the course of the study, transitions on which the participants have expressed their thoughts and emotions are identified in relation to the suffered changes. Consequently, as it is expressed in this study, noises, smells and leaks are thought to be the factors with a higher negative effect on patient’s quality of life. Furthermore, the importance of having the support of familiar, social and professionals is emphasized in order to face those changes. Key words: colostomy, quality of life, qualitative research.
