    Abstract:
The possible integration of an independent Catalonia in the European Union Faced with the diverse movements tending towards independence of regions without State those are guessed in the coetaneous Europe, among which stands out the sovereignty process that takes place currently in Catalonia, this study considers in which position would be a possible State emerged from the secession of a Member State of the European Union, in relation to the membership of this new State to the EU. For this purpose firstly is necessary to examine the legal framework where would happen this secession: the European Union Law. Thus, we will analyze the elements of the Union (unique nature of the Organization, principles and values) those have to substantiate the responses that contribute to this issue. Second, we will examine the concept of State’s succession and the International Law rules which regulate this subject in relation to the membership to international organizations; we will revise the practice of these bodies regarding the said matter. Finally, we will enter into the analysis of the theories, formulated by the doctrine, about the effects of secession in the European Union relative to the membership of this new independent State, as well as the approaches, about this topic, of the European Institutions, the national institutions and the Member States.
