Low dose radiation effects on behavior and cognitive functions: a systematic review

  • Identification data

    Identifier:  TFG:6310
    Authors:  Vallvé Bellés, Anna
    Abstract:
Prenatal exposure to low doses of ionizing radiation can have negative effects on offspring, such as behavioral disorders and deficits in cognitive functions. These effects may vary depending on radiation dose, developmental stage and individual sensitivity. Research was conducted that compiled scientific evidence from studies published from 2013 to the present. Alterations in behavior, changes in brain volume, memory deficits and an increased risk of mental retardation were found. Further research is needed to understand the exact mechanisms and effects of this exposure, raising concerns about brain and cognitive development in offspring.
