    Abstract:
Melanin is a pigment that derives from a complex biochemical process called melanogenesis. Although the main function of melanin is to protect the skin against UV ultraviolet radiation, an alteration in the production or distribution of melanin can trigger skin diseases. It is known that some compounds of natural origin are involved in the regulation of pathways involved in melanogenesis and therefore, thanks to some properties derived from the secondary metabolites of plants and their extracts, these can play a very important role in the treatment of skin pigmentation disorders.
