A Counterbalance of Four Tenets on Gender

Abstract: This paper counterbalances four popular tenets – or core beliefs – around gender with cross-disciplinary findings and alternative explanations that contrast, complement, or expand their narrative. It covers the social construction of gender, the gender pay gap, gender-based violence, and the patriarchy. The first tenet is contrasted with studies on sex differences, the origins of sexual reproduction, and toy preferences observed in babies and monkeys; the second with studies on differing workplace preferences by gender; the third with studies on the differing violent tendencies of the sexes, and the fourth with historical facts and studies on sociology, evolutionary psychology, and biology.; Aquest article contraresta quatre principis populars –o creences bàsiques– al voltant del gènere amb troballes transversals i explicacions alternatives que contrasten, complementen o expandeixen la seva narrativa. Cobreix la construcció social del gènere, la diferència salarial de gènere, la violència de gènere i el patriarcat. El primer principi es contrasta amb estudis sobre les diferències de sexe, els orígens de la reproducció sexual i les preferències de joguines observades en nadons i micos; el segon amb estudis sobre les diferents preferències laborals per gènere; el tercer amb estudis sobre les diferents tendències violentes dels sexes, i el quart amb fets històrics i estudis sobre sociologia, psicologia evolutiva i biologia.
