Molecular characterization of local cultivars of Vitis vinifera L. in volcanic areas (La Gomera / Canary Islands) using SSR markers

Abstract:
The cultivation of Vitis vinifera L. varieties is outstanding worldwide in economic and productive terms. However, we only use 1% of its varieties, leaving viticulture in a vulnerable position in the face of changes (e.g. climate change). This work responds to the search for new varieties via prospecting of La Gomera (Canary Islands), an important stronghold of biodiversity in Europe due to its history. 110 samples were examined using 20 Microsatellites for categorization and statistical programs such as Structure 2.3.4 or GenAlEx 6.503 for population study. 3 new varieties, 1 size variety, and population information were obtained.
