    Abstract:
Near-death experiences (NDEs) are considered lucid states that are triggered when the patient's health status is physically compromised, which can lead to death if there is no improvement in their prognosis. Scientific research on NDEs is now widely known and the debate over its authenticity has largely been resolved. This is evident in the multitude of studies that use the Greyson scale where the 4 fundamental aspects contained in an NDE are assessed; the affective, transcendental, paranormal and cognitive. Despite the extensive body of research, theories related to the study of consciousness and NDEs have yet to converge on a unified explanation. NDEs continue to be an area of intense interest and debate not only in the medical field, but also in ethical, philosophical, and spiritual contexts. This work aims to systematically review the available scientific literature to provide a comprehensive view of the perceptions and characteristics of NDEs in patients who have suffered cardiac arrest (CA) as well as explore the possible correlation between NDEs and the study of consciousness.
