Foot Reflexology in Primary Care Nursing

Abstract:
Abstract Objectives: To identify preventive methods of Foot Reflexology (FR), to know the current situation of the use and grant of FR by the National Health System (NHS) and to know the opinion of specialized nurses about the implementation of FR in primary care. Methods: The epistemological option selected for the study is qualitative, phenomenological-interpretative methodology with in-depth, semi-structured, individual, cross-sectional interviews, with a duration of 20-40 minutes. The sampling was performed in chain of specialized nurses in FR, delimiting the sample size by the saturation of the collected data. The interviews were transcribed and the contents were coded and analyzed by a hermeneutic triangulation of data. Results: The units or categories of analysis generated during the investigation were: preventive contributions of Foot Reflexology, the current situation of the use and coverage of FR in the NHS and the opinion of specialized nurses about the implementation of FR in primary care. Conclusion: Foot reflexology is a technique that can bring great benefits to both the population and the NHS for its possible combination with conventional medicine either as a preventive method or as reinforcement in acute and chronic pathologies, or as a tool of education for health. Also it does not require material costs, but on willingness to invest on education and time to do it.
