From Emissions to Admissions: Exploring the Air Quality of Camp de Tarragona and its Impact on Pediatric Respiratory Health using Machine Learning

    Abstract:
    This study investigated the link between air quality and children's respiratory health in an industrial area of Spain. Air pollution levels varied spatially, with higher concentrations in urban areas. Hospital admissions for respiratory illnesses peaked in infants. Weak positive correlations were found between air pollutants and admissions, with the strongest link observed for nitrogen oxides. Machine learning models showed limited ability to predict admissions based on air quality data. The study suggests a potential association but highlights the need for further research with broader data and advanced methods.
