    Abstract:
Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs) face challenges in managing neurological emergencies and monitoring the brain activity of newborns. Although amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) has improved, it still requires development, particularly in the use of suitable electrodes for long-term monitoring. A study compared two types of electrodes: commercially available liquid gel electrodes and the new aCUP-E, designed specifically for newborns. In a trial with 20 healthy newborns, the aCUP-E showed better impedance stability, recorded more sleep cycles, and provided higher-quality recordings, suggesting it could be a more effective alternative.
