Review of school menus in the city of Reus

    Abstract:
    The study evaluates the quality of school menus offered at primary education centers in the city of Reus during the 2024–2025 academic year, according to the criteria of the PReME program. A total of 24 winter monthly menus were analyzed, and additional data were collected from 14 schools. Compliance was high for vegetables and fresh fruit, but only 20.8% met the recommended servings of legumes, and 33.3% exceeded the recommended frequency of red meat. Deficiencies were identified in the information provided about the menus. The study concludes that better planning and greater implementation of the PReME program are needed.
