Hand hygiene knowledge and compliance in the health sector in relation to the prevention of hospital infections

    Abstract:
    Summary in English Introduction: Nosocomial infections are generally spread through the hands of healthcare personnel who are in contact with infected patients or surfaces located nearby. Objective: To review the current literature regarding hand hygiene (HH), as a preventive measure their knowledge and compliance in healthcare in relation to nosocomial infections. Methodology: integrative review of the sources of information from the following databases and electronic journals: Icercador plus, Cuiden, Google Scholar, Scielo and Dialnet. Results: 15 articles were analyzed. To analyze the data obtained was used interpretative reading. Conclusions: Hand hygiene is an effective preventive measure against nosocomial infections. Educational interventions on nosocomial infections and hand hygiene cause increased knowledge of this subject, and their greater knowledge leads to greater compliance with HH in health care workers.
