Abstract:
This Final Degree Project focuses on the technical design of an industrial building intended for the comprehensive maintenance of railway wagons, with the goal of improving the availability and operational efficiency of rolling stock within the logistics network connected to the Port of Tarragona. The intervention responds to the need to replace a deteriorated pre-existing structure, taking advantage of its strategic location in the Francolí industrial estate, an area with excellent road and rail connections. The facility is conceived as a specialized maintenance center, functionally divided into a workshop area where inspection, disassembly, and refurbishment of components such as axles, bearings, and wheels will be carried out, along with other tasks related to preventive and corrective maintenance. Auxiliary areas are also included, such as administrative offices, separate changing rooms, a staff dining area, and a mezzanine level for storage purposes. The infrastructure incorporates a 10-ton overhead crane for the safe handling of heavy components, as well as a rail beam specifically dimensioned to support dynamic loads under unfavorable conditions. The entire structure has been designed using professional engineering software (CYPE and CRANEWAY), following the standards set by the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE) and the applicable Eurocodes. This project aims to provide a technical and functional solution to the client's needs through an efficient, adaptable, and safe design, while also addressing environmental, construction, economic, and regulatory aspects, contributing to the region’s sustainable industrial development.
