ABSTRACT: Goals: Conduct an extensive literature search on the current state of the subject to know the advantages and disadvantages of open and closed units for Intensive Care. And observe from the point of view of the people involved in the issue, professionals, family and patients. At a national and international level. Methodology: A review of the scientific literature in databases ACADEMIC GOOGLE, CUIDEN and PUBMED and a deep analysis of the topic in articles selected from different countries of the world was made. Results: 25 items that matched the search target were selected, with 11 in Spanish language and referring to the ICUs of our country and 14 English language articles that addressed various ICUs of different countries. Conclusions: After all the research related to the topic, it appears that as in the rest of the world, in Spain despite being demonstrated by scientific evidence, is still demanding a policy of open visits, which is one of the unfinished themes In our country. Everyone refers to the beneficial effect of RVA for the patient, family and even for professionals, but nobody moves to start opening ICUs.
