Lévy flights for competition avoidance in microbial dynamics

    Abstract:
    This project investigates the impact of Lévy flights on competitive dynamics in biological systems using theoretical analysis and numerical simulations. We study one-dimensional foraging, showing that efficiency depends on movement strategy and evaluation metrics, and two-dimensional spatial dynamics, where local interactions drive clustering and pattern formation in single-species populations. Extending this, we examine competition between two species with different movement behaviors through R-based visualizations. Our results reveal that differences in motility promote spatial segregation and, at times, lead to oscillatory population dynamics.
