Memory retrieval and distortions in eyewitness testimony

    Abstract:
This study analyzes the variables that affect the accuracy of eyewitness testimony, examining the effect of suggestive information, the passage of time, and subjective confidence. Using an experimental design with 12 university students (control and experimental groups), recall was assessed after viewing a robbery video. The results show that the passage of time significantly reduced the accuracy of memory. Furthermore, post-event misinformation led to a tendency toward greater error and lower confidence, with positive correlations found between confidence and accuracy, suggesting that confidence could be a reliable indicator of recall.
