Stress, resilience and coping strategies: a comparative study between families with children with Down syndrome and typical development

Abstract:
This study compares parental stress, resilience, and coping strategies between families with children with Down syndrome and families with typically developing children. Using a quantitative methodology and standardized instruments (PSI-SF, CD-RISC-10, and Brief COPE), the results show that, although overall stress levels are similar in both groups, the clinical group experiences greater behavioral demands associated with the "Difficult Child." The findings highlight the protective role of resilience in family adjustment and strategic flexibility as a key mechanism for managing chronic parenting stress.
