Abstract:
This study investigates how the emotionality of sentences affects their processing and the role of individual differences. 65 participants performed a plausibility judgment task while their response times were recorded. The results show that emotional sentences are processed faster than neutral sentences, replicating the emotional superiority effect. Positive sentences are processed faster than negative sentences, consistent with the automatic vigilance hypothesis. No significant correlations were found with personality traits, empathy, or alexithymia. In contrast, reading comprehension correlated positively with emotional affect.
