Doomscrolling and emotional distress in the population: a study on the relationship with anxiety, stress and depression

Abstract:
Doomscrolling is the compulsive consumption of negative digital news, a dimensional phenomenon that affects physical and emotional well-being. This quantitative and cross-sectional study, conducted with 114 adults, explored its relationship with sociodemographic factors and clinical distress. The results indicate mild levels of this habit, detecting a negative correlation with age and a higher prevalence in men. A significant link has been identified between doomscrolling and global distress, especially with stress. Finally, the need for longitudinal research to determine the causality of this habit in public health is concluded.
