Evolution of Caregiver Burden and Associated Variables in Caregivers of People with Neurocognitive Disorder Following a Group Psychoeducational Intervention

Abstract:
Increased life expectancy has led to a rise in the prevalence of neurocognitive disorders, generating a greater demand for family care and a risk of caregiver burden. This study evaluated the impact of a group psychoeducational intervention on perceived burden in 22 primary caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other neurocognitive disorders. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design was used, consisting of 16 weekly sessions focused on disease knowledge, emotional coping, self-care, and social support. The results showed an average reduction of 2.82 points on the Zarit Burden Interview after the intervention.
