How cognitive biases alter the perception of reality in the context of a reunion

Abstract:
This study analyzes how cognitive biases—confirmation bias, negative interpretation bias, and negativity bias—influence the perception of reunions. Three standardized instruments (AOT-E, ASSQ, LOT-R) and an ad hoc questionnaire (TR) were administered to university students and Erasmus program participants. The results showed low to moderate levels of all three biases and no significant differences between genders. Spearman's rank correlation analysis confirmed that all three biases are significantly associated with a negative perception of the reunion, supporting the study's central hypothesis and contributing to a better understanding of how cognitive distortions shape the experience of emotionally intense interpersonal events.
