Introduction: Sarcopenia is a muscular disease that affects older adults (≥60 years), with a prevalence of 14 to 33% in institutionalized patients >65 years. In Spain, 34.8% of institutionalized people will suffer from sarcopenia (13.4% will be men and 45.1% women), so early detection and treatment is of vital importance. Objective: To evaluate the effect of age, gender, reason for institutionalization, polypharmacy, defining characteristics of sarcopenia and sections of the SARC-F test on the severity of sarcopenia (valued as total SARC-F test score) in older adults ( ≥60 years) sarcopenic patients admitted to the Hospital Sociosanitari Francolí de Tarragona (HSSF). Methodology: Pilot, observational and cross-sectional study. Sarcopenia was diagnosed from each participant (n = 15) using Strength, Assistance with walking, Rise from a chair, Climb stairs and Falls (SARC-F) test and the defining characteristics of sarcopenia (muscle strength, mass and muscle performance and gait capacity) through validated tests. Data such as gender, reason for institutionalization, personal history, pharmacology, socio-family situation, architectural barriers at home and functional capacity prior to admission were also collected. Results: Severity of sarcopenia has been significantly and directly related to the sections of the SARC-F test that evaluate the strength of the upper extremities (p=0.024), the ability to get up from a chair (p=<0.001) and the ability to climb stairs (p=0.003); with the score of the mass and muscle performance of the left lower limb (p=0.011), with the ability to walk (p=0.025) and polymedication (p=0.036) and inversely with muscle strength (p=0.033).
