Abstract: ABSTRACT This project is carried out to determine the energy efficiency of a wind extractor made with a mechanical turbine which is typically installed on the rooftops of buildings. Its main function is to improve the draft in chimneys, ventilation and air exchange inside the buildings. The promoter proposes to determine the capacity of the extractor to convert wind energy into mechanical in order to evaluate the possibility of modifying the extractor, turning into a wind power generator. Because of this, the project presents a clear research approach. For doing this, it has been necessary to perform various tests using a wind tunnel in order to obtain the power curves which govern the operation of the extractor, according to the power coefficient (CP) and Tip Speed Ratio (TSR). For developing the tests, different instrumentation has been used as load cells and Pitot tube, together with the equipment configuration for data acquisition and signal sampling. Subsequently, a modification of the conventional extractor is done by installing two wing profiles of NACA-0014 model, with the aim of improving energy efficiency and where the vorticity and the flow that leaves behind the extractor are studied. At this point, it is tried to visualize flow streams by using the Tuft-Grid methodology, along with capturing images at high speed and post-processing of these. Finally, the effects caused by the suction of the extractor on the results of energy efficiency are analysed, and with this the conclusions on the feasibility of the project are established.
